There are two main types of hair loss treatments available: prescription medications and over-the-counter (OTC) hair loss medications. These medications work by blocking the conversion of testosterone to a less potent form of testosterone. Propecia and Rogaine are two of the most commonly prescribed medications for treating male pattern baldness.
The active ingredient in Propecia is finasteride. This is an oral prescription medication that blocks the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. Finasteride works by inhibiting the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that contributes to hair loss. DHT can cause hair follicles in the scalp to shrink over time, leading to thinning hair and loss in the form of balding.
The active ingredient in Rogaine is minoxidil, a foam designed to stimulate hair growth. The foam is designed to promote hair growth in areas of the scalp that are sensitive to DHT. It works by increasing blood flow to the hair follicles, which is why Rogaine is typically used for hair loss treatment in men with male pattern baldness.
Propecia is typically taken as a tablet and is typically taken once daily. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed the prescribed duration. Additionally, if you are experiencing difficulty in maintaining a healthy hairline or thinning hair, it is recommended to talk to your doctor about this option.
Male pattern baldness is a condition that occurs due to the shrinkage of hair follicles on the crown of the head. The primary cause of hair loss is male pattern hair loss, and the treatment may include treatment with over the counter (OTC) medications. For more information, please see the product description on the Hair Loss Foundation website.
Rogaine is a prescription medication designed to treat male pattern baldness. It works by inhibiting the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone that is responsible for hair loss in men.
You should start with a hair loss treatment for at least two months before trying Rogaine. It is important to start treatment with the recommended dosage and schedule as instructed by your doctor.
To reduce the risk of side effects, take the tablet before bedtime. You can take it with or without food, but taking it with a heavy meal may delay its onset of action. You should continue to take the medication even after you notice improvement in your hair loss, even if you are feeling better. It is important to continue taking the medication even after your hair loss is completely stopped.
If you are experiencing significant hair loss, it is recommended to begin treatment with a prescription medication called Propecia. This is a brand-name prescription medication that is approved by the FDA for treating male pattern baldness in men.

DHT causes hair follicles to shrink over time, leading to thinning hair and loss in the form of balding.
Your doctor may recommend a topical treatment that is applied directly to the scalp once a week. This treatment is not effective for everyone. If you are experiencing thinning hair or have a medical condition that affects hair growth, it is recommended to see your doctor for advice on preventing the effects of this medication.
Your hair loss treatment should be stopped if you are experiencing significant hair loss within the first six months of treatment with Propecia.
The average onset of action for Propecia is usually around 1-2 months before you begin treatment with Propecia. However, some men experience more immediate results, such as a more noticeable decrease in hair growth or even fullness. It is recommended to continue taking Propecia for as long as you have completed the first six months of treatment with Propecia.

The UK patent forPropecia, a hair loss treatment for men, expired on the 12th Oct 2014. A few days later ‘generic Propecia’ or more accurately ‘generic finasteride’ became available from UK pharmacies. A generic medicine is a medicine which is the same as a branded original, but is prescribed and supplied by its medical name, rather than its brand name.
Propecia is a brand name. The active ingredient of Propecia tablets isfinasteride 1mg. Propecia tablets and finasteride 1mg tablets are medically the same.
Dr Fox supplies both from the drug companyMerck(MSD), which held the original patent, and lower cost, which other drug companies have made available since Merck’s UK patent expired.
When a medicine comes off patent price can fall dramatically. Men, who previously paid very high prices for Propecia, may be able to buy medically identical finasteride 1mg at lower prices.
When a medicine is under patent it can only be sold legally by the patent holder. This means the patent holder, which is normally the drug company which paid to develop the medicine in the first place, is free to market the medicine without competition from other pharmaceutical companies. The result is usually very high prices. When a patent expires other drug companies usually start to produce the same medicine, known as a generic copy, and start to compete on price. As a result the cost to patients tends to fall.
The cost to patients of a medicine depends on various factors; how much it costs to produce, how much demand there is, how many drug companies supply the same medicine, and how flexible the market is. Even when the wholesale supply price of a medicine falls, the price patients pay does not always fall by the same amount. Retail pharmacies may try not to pass on reduced supply costs to patients, and instead use falling wholesale prices to boost profits. If there is price competition between retailers, as there tends to be between online pharmacies and online clinics, price to patients usually fall in line with falls in wholesale supply costs, but not always.
Dr Fox is one of the lowest cost suppliers of most medicines for both branded and generic medicines.
At the moment (10 June 2015) only three pharmaceutical companies, apart from Merck, are supplying finasteride 1mg tablets. These companies areTrent,Actavis, andMylanAt the time of writing, all are offering their generic equivalent of Propecia at the same price; about 10% less than branded Propecia. Prices will hopefully tumble further in the days and weeks to come (as happened when last year).UPDATE JANUARY 2022Generic finasteride is now less than 30% of the price of Propecia from Dr Fox.
The most recent negative for Dr Fox was a note which read: “Dr Fox is a very low cost pharmacy. We have very competitive prices, small patient sizes, and very few drugs being sold which are not humanly created. We believe that if there is a generic version of Propecia purchased at a lower price patients will price their drugs very very differently.”
The fact is that the wholesale supply price for a medicine has fallen to about 10% of the price from its recent normal.
If there is price competition from online pharmacies and online clinics, price to patients usually fall in line with falls in wholesale supply costs.
We have not published any actual sales from Dr Fox, but we believe that its recent price for Propecia from Dr Fox, which was about 10% of the price from its most recent report, indicated that its likely to be very low.
Dr Fox is the leading supplier and manufacturer of branded and generic medicines, both from drug companies and individual pharmacies, and of all medicines.
Dr Fox currently supplies 120 tablets of Propecia to more than 3,200 pharmacies in the UK. Dr Fox supplied the ‘generic’ Propecia tablets 12 days after the date of last order on which generic finasteride 1mg tablets came on sale ( antidote is made up by the fact that the generic finasteride 1mg tablets are available by prescription only at the local pharmacy).

Human Growth Factor Finasteride (1mg) Finasteride is a competitive antifungal medication primarily used to treat various types of fungal infections such as fungal ononyonychiasis, systemic fungal infections, and certain types of systemic fungal infections. Finasteride works by inhibiting the growth and spread of the fungi Doryneze, a vital component of the body's defense mechanism against fungal infections. Additionally, Finasteride helps to reduce the symptoms of fungal infections by inhibiting the synthesis of essential viruses and proteins, thereby halting their growth and spread. Finasteride is an effective treatment for various types of fungal infections, including dermatitis herpetiformis, certain types of systemic fungal infections, and urethras. In addition to providing relief from symptoms associated with fungal infections, Finasteride also helps to alleviate the discomfort that can accompany infections. Finasteride can be used for specific types of infections, such as dermatitis herpetiformis, the condition where the fungi on the skin implant on the skin, or urethras, the types of infections in which the fungus is present on the urinary system but is not actively growing. Finasteride works by targeting the bacteria that cause the infections, thereby inhibiting the growth and spread of the fungus. The antifungal action of Finasteride is primarily due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of ergosterol, a essential component of the fungal cell membrane. This synthesis inhibition will prevent the infection from spreading and thereby aid in the eradication of the infection. In addition to its antifungal properties, Finasteride also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help to alleviate symptoms of fungal infections. Potential side effects of Finasteride may include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, nausea, and stomach pain. However, there is a possibility that the side effects of Finasteride may be mild and transient.
